Ombuds Office

The Ombuds Office is a confidential and neutral resource to help you resolve university-related problems. We listen, ask questions and help you weigh your options. When appropriate we can offer informal mediation and facilitate communication. You are in the drivers' seat; your name is not used without your permission. The Ombuds Office is informal, meaning that your contact with us does not put the university "on notice." We do not judge, reward or punish. If you decide to pursue formal channels we can refer you to the appropriate office. The mandate of the Ombuds Office is to ensure that faculty, staff and students receive fair and equitable treatment within the campus system.

Although appointments are not required, it is best to call to arrange a convenient time to meet with a member of the Ombuds staff. For information, or to arrange an appointment, please contact Kay Politella, support staff, Room 823, Campus Center, or telephone (413) 545-0867. The Ombuds Office can also be contacted by email: ombuds@ombuds.umass.edu.
