UMass Libraries

The UMass Amherst Libraries are a partner in teaching, learning, and research at UMass Amherst and beyond. The Libraries foster a diverse, inclusive, and user-centered environment in which to engage with ideas and acquire the skills necessary for independent learning and critical thinking.

The Libraries offer a wealth of technology, expert staff, resources, and services online and out of two physical locations near the center of campus, the W. E. B. Du Bois Library and the Science and Engineering Library (SEL) in the Lederle Graduate Research Center Lowrise.

The Libraries provide spaces for learning and research including the Learning Commons in Du Bois Library, outfitted with computers, research, writing, course reserves, technical assistance, poster and regular printing, and the Digital Media Lab, home to 3D printers, Virtual Reality sets, and media production equipment and studios. Quiet study spaces and group study spaces, the latter bookable online, are available throughout both library locations. Special Collections and University Archives (SCUA) houses many unique and important collections, accessible by visiting the SCUA Reading Room on Floor 25 of the Du Bois Library and online
