The Major

The College offers undergraduate degree programs that lead to the B.A in Early Childhood Education or to the B.A. in Special Education.  All Education majors with a concentration in Special Education or Early Childhood Education must complete a secondary major in the liberal arts or sciences.

Both Early Childhood Education concentration (PreK-2nd grade) and Special Education concentration (Moderate Disabilities in Special Education K-8 or 5-12) lead to initial licensure.

Students apply for admission to the Early Childhood or Special Education program during their sophomore year. Prior to admission into the Education Major students should seek advising through the Educator Information Office (eio@educ.umass.edu). Students will also need to work with the undergraduate departmental advisers of their secondary major to ensure that all secondary major requirements are met.
