The Major

The Operations & Information Management major provides an integrated view of operations and information management which gives our students a competitive advantage in the marketplace and meets the needs of the industry.

  • Companies have had the ability to accumulate data for some years.  They now have the need to leverage the data for competitive advantage.  That is where the OIM major comes in.
  • Using technology-driven, process-oriented thinking to manage and improve business process and operations, and thereby make efficiency and productive gains.

The Operations and Information Management curriculum equips you with the skills that meet the needs of the business world.  The subject matter encompasses what is now being referred to, in the marketplace, as business intelligence, business analytics, and business process optimization, and supply chain management, and operations management.

The list of offered courses includes Service Industry Operations, Supply Chain Management, Manufacturing and Service Operations methods, Business Processes and Enterprise Systems, Business Intelligence and Analytics, Advanced Business Analytics, Information and Project Management, Logistics and Transportation, Business Process Simulation, Business Process Optimization, Humanitarian Logistics and Healthcare, Quality Management, and Supply Chain Analytics.  The curriculum is flexible and includes courses that satisfy the Information Technology Minor.  OIM students may also earn an SAP Student Recognitions Award by completing three of the four courses supported by the SAP Business Suite:  Business Processes and Enterprise Systems, Business Intelligence and Analytics, Information and Project Management, and Advanced Business Analytics.
