UMA Undergraduate Guide 2018-2019 Academic Departments and Programs Pre-Medical and Pre-Health Advising The Pre-Medical Advisers
The Pre-Medical Advisers
The Pre-Med/Pre-Health advisors consult with all students interested in medicine, dentistry, physician assistant, optometry, chiropractic, pharmacy, and other health professions fields. It is recommended that any student interested in a health professions graduate program meet with a Pre-Med/Pre-Health advisor. All interested students, regardless of academic major or college, and all transfers, continuing education, second bachelor's degree, and graduate students, should meet with an advisor at the Pre-Med/Pre-Health office by making an appointment or attending drop-in hours. This allows the student to take advantage of advice and counseling from the advisors. The advisors also assess the student's academic performance at the University and recommend enriching extra-curricular activities that will support the student's competitiveness as an applicant. Pertinent information and materials on graduate health professions programs such as pre-requisite courses and acceptance data are also available in the Pre-Med/Pre-Health Office. Letters of evaluation, required by medical and dental schools, are written by the Pre-Med/Pre-Health advisors and first hand knowledge of the student is essential for this process. |
