The Five College Logic Certificate Program brings together aspects of logic from different regions of the curriculum: Philosophy, Mathematics, Computer Science, and Linguistics. The program is designed to acquaint students with the uses of logic and initiate them in the profound mysteries and discoveries of modern logic. Students pursuing the certificate consult with an advisor to design a course of study drawing on the expertise and courses offered by more than fifteen faculty members across the five campuses.

Students successfully completing the requirements in consultation with a certificate advisor and to the satisfaction of the Five College Logic Steering Committee are awarded the certificate upon graduation.

Certificate Requirements:

• Complete six courses approved by a Five College Logic certificate advisor at the student's home campus.
• No more than four courses can be counted towards the certificate from any single discipline (philosophy, linguistics, mathematics, computer science).
• At least two courses must be taken at an advanced level (500 or above at the University of Massachusetts, 300 or above at Amherst College, Smith College, Hampshire College or Mount Holyoke College).
• At least one course should expose students to the basic metatheory of first-order logic including incompleteness. Courses satisfying this requirement include:

• Students must receive a grade of at least "B" in each course counting towards the certificate.
