The Courses

(All courses carry 3 credits unless otherwise noted.)

The 100-level courses are introductory surveys intended primarily for first-year students, although they may be taken at the sophomore level or above.

The 300-level courses (ART-HIST 302-355) are the immediate continuation of the introductory courses for students at the sophomore level and above. They offer a more detailed survey of the art and architecture of a particular period.

The Topical and Great Themes Courses (ART-HIST 381-397) offer the more advanced student the opportunity to explore select problems in greater detail. Qualified undergraduates also may enroll in 600-level graduate seminars. These, as well as the Great Themes courses, vary from semester to semester; detailed descriptions are available in the History of Art and Architecture Office, 317B Bartlett.
