Career Opportunities

Career options for nutritionists range from improving personal dietary practices on an individual or community level to the pursuit of new knowledge through research.  Nutrition professionals work in a wide variety of settings, including health care (hospital or out-patient clinic), public health, education, research, sales, marketing, and public relations.  Many community service programs, such as WIC, School Lunch, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Elderly Nutrition Program and Cooperative Extension Services, depend on nutritionists to provide the planning and implementation of nutrition education and intervention. Nutritionists also work in government, international NGOs, restaurant management, fitness, food companies, health care companies, the media and communication agencies as well as in private practice as consultants for individuals, nursing homes or corporations. Nutritionists/dietitians may also be involved in lab or community research, and in teaching nutrition courses in the community, through adult education, or public schools.

Nutrition graduates sometimes go on to pursue diverse occupations allied to nutrition. The study of Nutrition is excellent preparation for further study in many health-related fields such as public health or medicine. Graduates from our program can pursue degrees to become:

  • Nurse practitioners
  • Chiropractors
  • Pharmacists
