The Minor

The Sustainable Community Development minor assures that students are broadly exposed to the historical and theoretical aspects of the fields of planning and design.  The minor prepares students to be engaged in envisioning a more socially and environmentally balanced world through both design and planning.  These courses provide the academic background for understanding a wide range of cultural and ecological aspects of the built environment, past, present and future.  The minor requires 5 courses selected from core classes within the Sustainable Community Development curriculum.  The five courses for the Sustainable Community Development minor can be selected from the following classes:

SUSTCOMM  110 Community Engagement/Transform Your World (fall semester)
SUSTCOMM 125 Global Cities & Global Issues (spring semester)
SUSTCOMM 140 Awareness of the Visual Environment (fall semester)
SUSTCOMM 205 Dynamics of Human Habitation (fall semester, summer online)
SUSTCOMM 232 Sustainable Cities (spring semester)
SUSTCOMM 543 Landscape Architecture History I (fall semester)
SUSTCOMM 544 Landscape Architecture History II (spring semester)
SUSTCOMM 574 City Planning (fall semester)
LANDARCH 547 +547L Landscape Pattern and Process with Lab (fall semester)

Other coursework with SUSTCOMM, LANDARCH or REGIONPL designation may be counted toward minor with prior departmental approval.

All coursework for the minor must be completed with a grade of C- or better.
