Requirements to Earn the Certificate of Journalism

To earn the Certificate of Journalism, students must take a minimum of 15 credits in five courses. These are the specific courses required to complete the Certificate:

• Journalism 300, Newswriting and Reporting.
• One foundation class– either Introduction to Journalism (201) OR Journalism Ethics (460).
• Three other journalism courses. These are electives you can choose from all other courses taught through the Certificate, including the following:

Journal 391PR, Social Media & Public Relations

Journal 392S, Opinion Writing: Columns

Journal 445, Journalism and Law

Journal 492M, Magazine Writing

Journal 333, Introduction to Digital Photojournalism

Journal 391J, Food Writing

Journal 391T, Travel Writing

Journal 392P, Writing for Public Relations
