The Courses

(All courses carry 3 credits unless otherwise noted.)

The 100-level courses are introductory surveys intended primarily for first-year students, although they may be taken at the sophomore level or above.

The 300-level courses (ART-HIST 302-348) are the immediate continuation of the introductory courses for students at the sophomore level and above. They offer a more detailed survey of the art and architecture of a particular period. For most, a 100-level survey is a prerequisite.

The Topical and Great Themes Courses (ART-HIST 381-385) offer the more advanced student the opportunity to explore select problems in greater detail. They require an art history course or equivalent experience in the area as prerequisite. Qualified undergraduates also may enroll in 700-level graduate seminars. These, as well as the Great Themes courses, vary from semester to semester; detailed descriptions are available in the Art History Office, 317B Bartlett.
