UMA Undergraduate Guide 2011-2012 Academic Departments and Programs Hospitality and Tourism Management The Major
The Major
The Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management offers a course of study that prepares students for careers in the hospitality and tourism fields. Detailed information about the program and courses can be found on the HTM website. The increasing popularity of HTM courses and programs has necessitated certain enrollment controls. Students who have an interest in transferring to HTM (either from other units of the university or from other colleges or universities) should contact the HTM Academic Adviser very early in their academic careers to determine their prospects for admission. A student planning to transfer from within the university should file a complete application. The On-Campus Transfer Application is available online at the Undergraduate Programs page of the Isenberg School of Management website with two application deadlines of December 1st or May 1st. The student must complete three predictor courses: Econ 103 or Res-Econ 102 or Econ 104; Math 121 or higher, or Statistc 111, or Statistc 240 or Res-Econ 211 or Res-Econ 212; and HT-MGT 100. A cumulative grade of 2.0 or better in these predictor courses is required, with a cumulative grade of 3.0 preferred. In addition, the student should possess a cumulative GPA of all coursework of a minimum of 2.0, with a 2.7 or higher preferred. At the time of application, students must be in good academic standing. Satisfactory completion of these conditions, although required, does not guarantee admission into HTM. Students applying for transfer to HTM from other institutions should apply through the University Admissions Office of Transfer Affairs. Students who major in HTM must complete the following required courses: A. Math/Statistics Requirement B. HTM Courses for All Emphasis Areas C. Outside Courses D. Program Required Electives |
