Major approaches to theory development in the profession. Analysis of nursing theory and theories from related disciplines, to develop conceptual models for clinical practice. Limited to Nursing majors.

604 Introduction to Statistics for Health Research: Computer Application and Analysis of Data
This course focuses on introductory statistical techniques frequently used in health sciences research, use of analytic software and database creation and management.

605 Scholarly Writing for Health Professionals
The process of logical organization of ideas, clear and concise writing will be taught in the context of a health care area of interest to the student.

610 Primary Care of Children, Adolescents, and Young Adults
Evaluation of theory and research in the practice of primary care nursing with culturally diverse populations of children, adolescents, and young adults. Common health problems affecting this population presented with a focus on the health promotion and management of health disruptions. Social problems, health care policies, and practices which affect the delivery of primary health care emphasized.

614 Advanced Health Assessment and Clinical Reasoning
Classroom and laboratory practice and case-based approaches to health assessment and differential diagnosis of common health problems for diverse groups. Must be taken concurrently with NURSING 698A.

615 Advanced Pathophysiology
Concepts and theories related to disorders of physiological processes which result in health alterations in the child and the adult. Alterations in normal body functions leading to disease and discomfort of the individual presented within an organizing framework. Clinical inferences from concepts and theories of pathophysiology and pharmacology presented in relation to clinical nursing practice in primary care.

619 Advanced Pharmacology
Principles of pharmacology for classes of drugs commonly used in various healthcare practices.

620 Primary Care of Middle-Aged and Older Adults
This course examines the role of the advanced practice nurse in the delivery of primary health care to adults and families from diverse backgrounds.  Adult physical and psychosocial development, aging, family, health promotion, evidence- based practice and cost-effective management of common health problems are emphasized.

630 Research Methodology in Nursing
Relationship between research and theory development and clinical practice in nursing. Includes research design, methods of data collection, and a variety of analytical procedures for interpreting results.

640 Advanced Public Health Nursing I
Using community assessment techniques, environmental and population characteristics are systematically examined from geographical, sociocultural, political, and economic perspectives to increase the effectiveness of the delivery of health services.

642 Teaching in Nursing
Focuses on the dynamic, creative process of teaching and learning clinical nursing in preparation for competent, reflective nursing practice. Philosophies, theories, methodologies, and trends relevant to nursing education included.

643 Assessment and Diagnosis of Psychiatric and Mental Disorders
This course introduces the diagnostic processes in mental health/mental disorders using DSM 5 diagnostic criteria, ICD coding, and other mental assessment tools while considering family, community, and cultural influences.

651 Nursing Ethics, Health Policy, and Politics
This course provides students with a framework for examining political and ethical issues that influence health care.  Major elements of national health policy and politics will be analyzed.

670 Family Systems and Interventions in Nursing
Selected concepts, theories, and research related to family dynamics and family coping.  Strategies for advanced practice nurses to support family wellbeing and mental health will be addressed.

690A Living with Chronic Health Problems across the Lifespan
This seminar is based on critical analysis of the literature from arts and sciences on self-management, symptom management, and other theoretical models for living with chronic health problems.

698A Practicum for Advanced Health Assessment and Clinical Reasoning
This first supervised clinical practicum affords graduate students the opportunity to practice health assessment at the highest level for diverse clients with varied needs while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team. Credit, 1-3.

A precepted experience focusing on processes involved in preparing students for competent, reflective nursing practice. Philosophies, theories, methodologies, and trends in nursing education as applied to clinical teaching.

700 History of Nursing Science and Philosophy
Prepares doctoral students to systematically analyze epistemological, ontological, and metatheoretical perspectives in the philosophy of science, while also considering the implications for scientific inquiry, theory development, and knowledge development in nursing.

701 Healthcare Quality
This course will provide an overview of the history of the quality of care, with particular attention to the evolution of quality assessment, assurance, improvement, measurement, management, finance and research.

703 Pharmacotherapy Management
This case-based course integrates principles of pharmacology to construct, implement and evaluate optimal pharmacotherapeutic regimens commonly observed in various healthcare settings to prepare the practitioner for prescriptive authority.

704 Health Disparities and Social Justice
Using group discussion, research, and community-based assignments, students will gain knowledge regarding the historical dimensions leading to health disparities, social injustice, and concepts of marginalization, poverty, race, class, and gender.

705 Complex Health Problems in Primary Care for Patients with Multiple Chronic Conditions, Part 1
Fundamental to this course is the refinement of advanced knowledge and skills required to delivery primary health care to culturally diverse population of adult and older adult populations with MCC (multiple chronic conditions). Credit, 2.

The course focuses on leadership theory, research, development, and practical competencies of contemporary leaders of health care systems.

730 Qualitative Methods in Nursing Research
Advanced study of major qualitative research designs and methods used to build substantive knowledge in nursing. Emphasis placed upon experiential learning of methods and techniques to design studies and generate, analyze, and interpret data.

735 Informatics for Nursing Practice
This course provides students with essential knowledge and skills to utilize information systems/technology to improve and transform healthcare systems and provide leadership within healthcare systems and/or academic settings.

750 Advanced Public Health Nursing II
Examination of the theories, models and process of public health program planning, with a focus on designing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating population-based public health programs, including effective grant writing strategies.

760 Contemporary Issues in Public Health Nursing
An examination of global issues in public health practice, emphasizing the exchange of ideas and identification of alternative approaches to addressing public health issues at the community and geopolitical level.

790B DNP Capstone I: Defining Evidence for Problems and Solutions
This course focuses on a review of the literature regarding critical appraisal of clinical practice problems, identifying the gap in the evidence and analyzing potential solutions to the problem.

Describe and reflect the broad learning outcomes, concepts, and skills as a result of the course, they are expressed in general terms.

798U Capstone II: DNP Project Proposal Development
This course focuses on initial discussion of and assignments regarding health intervention planning, implementation, and evaluation for the development of the DNP Capstone Project Proposal. Credit, 2.

798W Capstone III: DNP Project Proposal Development
This course focuses on final discussion of and assignments regarding health intervention planning, implementation, and evaluation for the refinement and approval of the DNP Project proposal. Credit, 1.

810 Advanced Nursing Research
Seminar designed to assist students in the preparation of a research proposal for the federal sector.

820 Emerging Nursing Theories
A critical analysis of the writings of selected nurse theorists. Includes development and application of criteria for developing theory in nursing science.

870 Role of the Scholar as Leader: Policy, Issues, and Role Preparation
A seminar to synthesize leadership and policy central to the scholarly role of nurse scientist, leader and educator that influence the future of nursing and health care.  Opportunities are provided for field experiences and development of a mentoring relationship.

890A Capstone IV: DNP Project
This course focuses on the implementation, monitoring, and beginning evaluation of a theoretically based research translation project.

893A PhD Dissertation Seminar
This seminar will provides structure and peer review for the dissertation process. Students will focus on their dissertation, working in small groups to achieve their individual goals. Credit, 1.

897A Special Topics in Health
This course will address biomarkers in both health and disease. Students select appropriate biomarkers and research methods to assess underlying processes and mechanisms.

898A Capstone V: DNP Project Completion

898D DNP Practicum: Immersion Experience
This practicum provides an intensive immersion opportunity for students to further enhance and integrate their prior learning and to gain experience with designated DNP essentials and specialty competencies. Credit, 2.
