2011-2012 Mechanical & Industrial Engineering Programs, Faculty, and Courses Program Overview Doctor of Philosophy Degree Program
Doctor of Philosophy Degree Program
There are no formal course requirements for the Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering. Typical programs include 9 credits of course work beyond the course requirements for the M.S. degree and consist of a major and minor within mechanical engineering and a minor in mathematics. The Doctor of Philosophy program in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research requires that a student complete a dissertation and a minimum of 9 course credits beyond those earned for a Master’s degree. Candidates entering without an M.S. degree will typically take the core courses described above. Additionally, all doctoral students must register for the IEOR seminar (M&I-ENG 794) every semester. Students are not required to demonstrate competency in a foreign language. Other residency, dissertation, and examination requirements are described in the General Information section of this Bulletin. Brochures containing detailed information on requirements for the Master’s degree and Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering and Operations Research are available from the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department. |
